Recent shootings in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.
So the other day in Wisconsin, an American white-supremacist-neo-nazi named Wade Michael Page walked into a Sikh temple during a time of worship and went ballistic, leaving six dead and many others on the verge of death.
What we have here is what many would call a “homegrown terrorist” acting on racist and Nazi ideologies, yet I don’t see many news sites, or even FACEBOOK and TUMBLR paying much attention. I don’t even see the event on the CNN.COM front page anymore.
I’m going to say ahead of time that I AM NOT attempting to downplay the recent Aurora shootings. What I’m trying to ask here is, if the Aurora Colorado shootings received so much coverage and attention in such a small time frame, why aren’t we attending to the recent Sikh shootings in the same manner? It’s common knowledge these days that there are many others out there just like Page, in the forms of right-wing extremism, Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazism, domestic terrorism, whatever you want to call it. So shouldn’t this AT LEAST be receiving the same amount of attention and awareness?
I do have a reason and answer in my head, but I’m not going to type it down here. It’s a rhetorical question anyways.
These shootings aren’t any better or worse than the Aurora shootings, but we should keep in mind that Page is only ONE out of HUNDREDS out there who are extremely racist and hateful enough to end people’s lives. This is a reality that many others should learn to realize. I hope I’m not the only one thinking this.
